Let's go to the Y-M-C-A, It's so fun at the Y-M-C....

I am short a few members to make up a Village People boy band group, but Emmet said to me this week he wished I had six children, all more boys naturally. John pointed out that if we had kept up the spacing of 1.5-2 years between kids we could have six kids by now!! The fact that Hansen was one of my favorite groups growing up, and was a three brother boy band, meshes with the fact that having six boys 9 and under would be quite a lot. So I think I will stick with my trio. ;)

We had a fun week, our YMCA membership has been a great asset to our weekly schedule. The boys can go to "Fun Club", their after school program that either swims, plays in a daycare like room, does tumbling activities or gym games. And I get two hours allllll by myself. Win-win for a homeschooling stay at home mom. We also started swim lessons for Michael and Emmet. We signed up late so we ended up with twice a week for Emmet and once a week for Michael. They are both loving it so far and excited to work towards reaching level 3 in lessons. Avery said he didn't want to, he isn't very fond of pools and water, but when he found out it is a zero entry pool and not that scary, he asked if he can sign up for the next session.

Last weekend we put the garden to bed for the winter, except where Michael had planted his winter garden seeds. They are growing well, but we do need to get out there and weed them!

Math and writing has been going as planned, workbooks are getting done grudgingly. However, Grammy (my mom), gave us a big bag of flashcards and we picked out some multiplication ones one day for math and the LOVED it.

Our new Spanish curriculum came today. I just happened to run across a book set that is like Bob Books, but in Spanish! And under the "recommended for those that purchased this" category on Amazon was a K-3rd Spanish workbook. Both are phenomenal! We did numbers worksheets, Avery had to trace from the number to the Spanish word and we counted together in Spanish. The older two had a worksheet to write 1-10 in word form in English and Spanish. It really seemed to help click, saying-writing-seeing it all together for them. We also re-downloaded Duolingo and Michael has been playing it happily all week, getting in reading and Spanish! Woohoo for curriculum wins!

Reading is also going really well. Emmet read a level 2 book without hardly pausing the other day and I see and hear both boys reading things aloud constantly. We did All About Reading, All About Pre-Reading, and All About Spelling this week. The older two had to spell 10 words and both did it perfectly.

We took a science break this week except drawing a fantasy picture for our art. I asked them to draw  a picture with mushrooms in a make believe way. I had a mushroom robot, mushroom caves, both with mushrooms bigger than people, and a mushroom house drawings. Our nature program focused on moss and I just couldn't find much supplemental info to teach from on the subject. However, we did some physics work, breaking down a brick fireplace in our basement. Each boy did lots of smashing and carrying bricks out, and then we all pitched in to clean up brick dust that settled EVERYWHERE. Haha. I am glad that is over.

We made a field trip to Bobs Red Mill and learned about their stone grinding process. When I asked the boys what they liked best they all said the samples *eyeroll* but I noticed the older two being very interested in the mechanics of the machines they had on display. Hoping to make a trip to another stone mill soon to further explore the process.

We are having troubles with our chromebook so didn't get to lego robotics (we did build with the legos for a while), but are working on getting the issues fixed.

Next week is our last Village Home day, plus the boys are selling items they have made at their craft fair. Then life will slow down a bit with just swim lessons and the holidays. I am ready for all the holiday cheer, but am also dreading the christmas tree pine needles everywhere already, ha ha!

Cheers, The Dillmans
