Martin Luther, AR blends, and Plural Spellings

Don't let the title fool you! It may sound like a super boring week, but it actually was quite fun!

We kicked Monday off with a chapter from Story of the World all about Martin Luther and how he helped make books common items in households. The chapter also talked about Johannes Gutenberg and his printing press. I challenged the boys as their science and art to create a printing press with our rubber stamps. They set to work right away! Both older boys came up with some fun tape and object creations to hold their stamps. Michael was shocked when his came out upsidown and backwards! How confusing! Then we pulled up videos on Guttenberg style printing presses and watched how it was done. Guess what else we learned? Uppercase letters were stored in the upper case, and Lowercase in the lower case as storage, wherence came the terms. The boys liked that learning connection.

In All About Reading we learned AR blends. We were already reading this blend, the program explained it better, but we always have said "it says arrrrr, like a Pirate!" All About Spelling we did the final lesson!! It was on spelling plural words. One curriculum down!

Emmet and Avery have been obsessed with asparagus lately. We planted some 3 years ago, and finally this year we have been able to harvest! We still only get 3 or so spears once a week, haha, so we bought a bulk box from our local food co-op and Michael leaped at the chance to can food and helped me make pickled asparagus! It turned out perfect!

Our Amazon craft supplies came last week as well! The boys got to work and for two solid days did nothing but craft weapons out of tongue depressors. And when I mean nothing else, I mean literally sat at our makeshift coffee table (our dining table is still covered in tomato starts!) And hot glued craft sticks together. Then they would wage war, break their weapons because they dont hold up to the abuse three boys can throw at them, and then re-craft trying to make them stronger. Totally worth the ten bucks they cost. And as soon as they used the last stick they asked me to buy more. Haha. Maybe we will wait a few months, dont want to over use it and make it boring.

Math is same 'ol same 'ol. Flash cards and workbooks. We keep working on our Spanish readers and for PE we have spend a lot of time outside! Michael is getting really good at mowing, Emmet has been riding his bike a lot, and Avery just runs around after his brothers.

Hope you are enjoying the moments of sunshine between the rain showers this time of year brings us!
