Emmet's 2dn Portfolio of 2020-2021 School Year

 Emmet's second porfolio for the year.

ELA

Emmet completed his 2,000 minute reading goal in January! He reads every night before bed and any day we drive somewhere he reads on the car ride. 

Emmet has completed the first 10 pages in his Minecraft Writing Workshop book. 

I can read every day. 

I can read 2000 minutes this school year.

I can produce writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose, with guidance and support from adults.

I can plan, revise and edit my writing with guidance and support from peers and adults.

I can write with stamina for short time frames or over a longer period of time depending on my purpose, audience and topic.

EMMET HAS ACCOMPLISHED THE FOLLOWING GOALS WHILE PARTICIPATING IN OUR CO-OP AND THROUGH ANSWERING CHAPTER QUESTIONS FROM STORY OF THE WORLD:

I can effectively participate in different types of discussions and with different people about 3rd grade topics and texts, building on others’ ideas and expressing my own clearly.

I can figure out the main ideas and supporting details of a text read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats.

I can ask and answer questions about information from a speaker, offering appropriate elaboration and detail.

I can give a report or share a story or experience with important details to help others understand, speaking clearly and at an appropriate pace.

I can speak in complete sentences when appropriate to task and situation in order to provide requested detail or clarification

MATH

Emmet completed Beast Academy Level 2A, completing the following goals:

I can represent and solve word problems involving addition and subtraction within 100.

I can fluently and accurately add and subtract facts through 20.

I can work with equal groups of objects to gain foundations for multiplication (e.g., arrays, repeated addition, etc.).

Number & Operations in Base Ten

I can understand and use place value (thousands, hundreds, tens and ones).

I can fluently use strategies to add and subtract double digit numbers within 100.

I can add and subtract within 1000 using models, strategies, and drawings.

Emmet has completed the first 5 pages of his Minecraft Workbook.

SCIENCE

Emmet has completed 4 weeks of horse back riding classes. He has learned to groom and tack his horse, control the horse using reins, and ask the horse to stop and start.

-I can learn about horse anatomy, care of animal, animal husbandry, and demonstrate this knowledge through learning to groom my own horse, getting faster at grooming, learning to work with the horse and learn the nature of horses through developing my skills weekly.

Emmet has completed the first two chapters of Chemistry Science from Mel Science and completed the following goals:

-I can explain the basics of atoms, molecules, elements, and matter.

I can make observations and/or measurements to produce data to serve as the basis for evidence for an explanation of a phenomenon or test a design solution.

I can ask questions that can be investigated based on patterns such as cause and effect relationships.

I can define a simple problem that can be solved through the development of a new or improved object or tool.

I can plan and conduct an investigation collaboratively to produce data to serve as the basis for evidence, using fair tests in which variables are controlled and the

number of trials considered.

SOCIAL STUDIES

Emmet has completed the first 18 chapters of Story of the World and through answering questions from the end of each chapter and reading additional books that complement subjects he has accomplished the following goals:

I can use a variety of historical sources including artifacts, pictures and documents to identify factual evidence.

 I can identify and compare different ways of looking at an event, issue, or problem with an emphasis on multiple perspectives.

 I can analyze different ways that people, other living things, and the environment might be affected by an event, issue, or problem.

ELECTIVES

Through our homeschool co-op and art projects connected to Story of the World Emmet has achieved the following goals:

I can be outside once a week riding horses, learning to groom, lead and ride. 

I can do nature based art projects at Eden Acre’s and with co-op

I can complete art projects with my art supplies based on our social studies subjects. 

I can refine and complete works of art. 

I can create art through appropriate use of tools and techniques.

I can respond and find meaning when viewing works of art.
