Week 11th and 12th November 15-26th: Reading and Thanksgiving

Playing catch-up with a post about the last two weeks! The 15-19th we mostly spent time at home, one brother had some tummy troubles that ended up being food related, but we skipped our Tuesday co-op just in case. We spent a lot of time inside reading instead! Emmet is super into the Splatoon manga comic series and has read about ten of the books over the last two weeks. Michael has started to read through the How to Train Your Dragon series, the hilarious Viking world of mischief and mayhem that the movies were (very loosely) based on. I believe he is on book 8, and has read most of those eight books this month!

Board games! We got out one from our new stash and played Dish 'Em Out! A very fun restaurant game where you get cards with your tables orders on them, then have to collect food coins on your turn. Think ahead and make a plan, certain food items take several turns to cook, and some are ready right away, but all of them only last under the warming lights so many turns before you have to trash them! Once you have fulfilled a tables order you get to keep that card and all it's points to add up at the end of the the breakfast rush to find out who wins! The boys really enjoyed it, we altered the rules a bit to make it more fast pace and it was even better!
Thursday all tummies felt better, so we ventured to the zoo with co-op. It ended up being the perfect weather, overcast but not cold, so many animals were out playing! Michael was SO mad about being there, he has never liked the zoo, that it ended very challengingly, but Avery reeeeally wanted to see the red pandas, which was on the way out, so we ended up spending another half an hour or so reading all the red panda signs.
School! We worked on workbooks about 5 times over the last two weeks! Emmet is flying through his math book and Michael is almost done with his writing book!
Christmas came! The boys had extra chores one day to clear off surfaced for decorations, and then they couldn't wait any longer. Our tree is a live tree we bought last year, summered on our front porch, and are using again this year. We have decided from now on we will buy a tree we want in our yard to use as our holiday tree, the boys are voting for a weeping willow next year, I am laughing at how it will be a stick with a handful of ornaments, ha ha.
Emmet has chosen most weeks this month to add a gift or two to his Christmas list instead of his writing book.
Magic the Gathering!!! I did not feel great the first two days of the holiday weekend, so they brought out their decks and John played Magic with them every day these last four days! It is a great strategy game, lots of reading involved, and a lot of memorization, as each card has a lot of details about what it does and you have 60-100 cards in each deck!
Michael working on writing.
Michael's drawing from his urban sketching class! He enjoys it so much!
Avery working on writing Q's. Normally we writes just a few, but he was super excited to learn Q that he wrote almost a full page!
Avery and I have switched from 100 Easy Lessons to Reading, to All About Reading. I did the same thing with the older two, switched from one to the other when they started to get bored and discouraged with the first. So far he is really enjoying it and finds it better than the 100 Easy Lessons book. We have done 3 lessons so far.
Michael has this page where he had instruction on how to start with a word and change the letters, and each step of the ladder the word was something new. Some asked him to change the vowel so it rhymed with another word, or asked a crossword like question to find the next rungs word. I thought it was fun.
At the zoo the eagles were RIGHT THERE!!! I could have reached out and touched them. Such a fun experience!
Owl Crate!! Reading has been such a big part of the fall that we decided to do a fun book subscription box! Owl Crate comes with a book (some months two books) and crafts, toys, items that match a theme with the book. We accidently ordered two of these creativity sets, plus got our first months box which was abut dragons. The little water color pan is so cute I ended up buying a third for Avery to put in his Christmas stocking since the older two got he first ones. They will be great for journaling on co-op days.
Mr. Skelly has arrived!!! Our skeleton for our anatomy unit is here! He is fun to pose, has broken a few bones already, hahaha, and I am hoping to get to crafting his bits and pieces soon!
We enjoyed four days of much needed rest and relaxation over Thanksgiving, got to spend two fun days with cousins and family, and one very fulfilling day with friends! Here comes December, ready or not, and all the fun holiday crafts!

Cheers,

The Dillmans
