Week 14 December 6-10th: Holiday Spirit
We are getting into the holiday spirits around here! Story of the World took us to Egypt and South America, exploring the transition of power and changing of land ownership in the late 1800's. We happened to also download The Waldock Way's Christmas Cookies Around the World curriculum this week and they had both a n Egypt and a Chili holiday cookie recipes! Little info about each countries culture around the cookie and holiday made for a fun read, and we hope to make the cookies later in the week.
We missed co-op on Tuesday, we were recovering from a fun weekend trip to Seattle to see some friends, however one of the moms stopped by with the supplies for the craft that day. They learned about St. Lucia and made wreaths. We had fun making our own and the boys hung them on their bedroom doors.
Avery got out his snap circuits to play with this week. Here is a photo of the book about St. Lucia's day we read, the two info sheets on holidays in Egypt and Chili, and wreath headbands Emmet and I colored another day.
A Relator in a town near us puts on a fun holiday drive thru event where they give each kid a gift bag of goodies. This year they had gingerbread cookies and decorating supplies! We had a friend from co-op sleep over for two nights this week while her mom was out of town, so we did the holiday drive thru and then decorated cookies together. They also played the following board games with her while she was here: Mall Madness, 5-Minute Dungeon, Life, and Out Foxed.
Emmet said he wanted to learn how to draw houses better and wanted to teach me how to do shading, so we had a fun drawing day together.
We visited a local park with co-op on Thursday. It had a fun free-building nature area where they added to a fort and played inside. It was a very cold and raining, actually if we had stayed home we would have seen snow flakes!!, but instead we stayed only an hour at the park and came home for cocoa, popcorn, and a movie!!
This week we did workbooks only twice- too much fun to do sit down school with a friend staying over!! Avery did half a reading lesson, and we read one chapter in Story of the World.
Hope your having some holiday tradition fun this week!
