The Great Dillman Vacation, Part I
We have been waiting oh-so-patiently for our big family trip to start. Avery has been saying over and over since Christmas, "when do we leave for the long, long trip? "
We took four days to drive to Phoenix. On the way we stopped at Hoover Dam, the older two went on a short tour of the power plant. It was amazing, and slightly terrifying as both John and I have a fear of heights. The boys were shocked that the dam was so big. One side they had maintance parking waaay at the bottom and when we said the cars down there were real and not toys Michael's jaw dropped.
That same day we drove to the south rim of the Grand Canyon. John and I went years ago, before kids, and it was still just as breathtaking. We didnt get to do much hiking then, and this time all the trails were frozen over, even the walking paths along the rim. So again, parents with vertigo and fear of heights plus three rambunctious children, equalled an interesting experience! Haha! The boys did A LOT of shopping, getting arrowhead necklaces, stuffed animals of the grand canyon, and dream catchers. We watched a video on the history of how the canyon was made, and explored the education center learning about the history of the local people. Humans have lived there for over 10,000 years!! We also saw lots of wildlife!
Enjoying the sunshine and sending some back to Oregon!

We are now in Phoenix for the rest of this week and have so far visited with family and met a friend at an indoor playplace that was pretty awesome! And, of course, had some Chick fil A (gotta get in and out burger next, haha). Today we go to the Arizona History Museum and Saturday we will go to a fun western replica town.
We have also done pages in our math books, lesson 13 in All About Reading, and wrote sentences about our trip for writing. We plan on doing Spelling tomorrow and listening to some of our Spanish tape while we drive to activities. Phoenix is HUGE so it takes a long time to drive places. We also have listened to three books on tape while we drive and worked on several of our Usborne activity books.
Enjoying the sunshine and sending some back to Oregon!
