Babies, babies, Everywhere!
Spring has sprung, and our farm is a shining example with baby cows, baby plants, baby chickens, and now our dog Cookie is expecting puppies again in 8 weeks! Snow, one of our cows had her calf last Thursday. We are sticking with the Gaelic name theme, but my sister said he looks like a Henry. So, we looked that up in Gaelic and his name is Eanruig. Just one more calf left to be born!
Stoey of The World had us traveling first to America with Columbus, learning of his seven year attempt to get funding before the king and queen of Spain had the money to send him. I really like how this program ties it all together, as Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand were a topic a few weeks ago. Next we jumped back across the pond to India talking about King Babur and how theit country was changing.
For free writing we wrote letters to friends and mailed them from our mailbox. An experience we havent done before. The boys thought it was cool we could mail a letter without having to go to town.
Math we continue to work on workbooks, flash cards, and our Prodigy game.
Spanish the boys have been reading our books or magazines.
All About Reading taught us about more syllable rules and vowel pronunciation while also reading a silly story about Jake the Snake. Avery practiced letter sounds M and N. He is really starting to pick it all up and put it together. He is awesome at rhyming and all day long will shout two words and happily cry, " They rhyme!"
For science the boys have been doing a lot of cooking. They also have been involved a lot in our garden plans. Currently I am working with another gal to create a CSA type salad garden. She wants to do it full time, and I want to learn from her, so naturally the boys are learning as well! We brought 30 meat chickens home as well and they are learning about feed ratios, chicken development, and will then learn processing of the meat in a few short weeks.
Art! Somehow my art and science planning has run out! We have drawn, made hundreds of paper airplanes, cross stitched, and made salt dough Easter Eggs to paint and hide! I find it hard to waste real eggs on dying and hiding and possibly not eating, after all the work we have put into producing our own eggs. Haha.
Beyond that lots of running outside, reading (we have started Treasure Island after a friend gave us a childrens collection library!), and legos, so many hours playing legos!
Avery enjoying a snack of ice cream and pickled asparagus, because we always like to keep it a bit weird!
Happy Spring, Happy Easter, Happy Ostara!
