Blooms Begin, Curriculum Ends

May has almost come and gone, can you believe it? We are moving right along in our curriculum, and finishing things left and right! All About Reading we have switched to doing every day so we will end it with the school year. Last week we studied soft and hard sounds of C, the two sounds of G, and reviewed Silent E rules, as well as read two stories practicing those lessons. We looked up how many more years this set has, and the boys thought it was awesome we only have two more levels to complete! Just wait, I said, because then we start grammer! And they were sad when we looked and All About Spelling, which we completed year one of this year, has seven levels! Haha!

Our garden is coming along nicely. The boys follow me outside each day, picking me flowers from our blooming peonies, irises, and alliums. They also spend a lot of time playing, adventuring, and building things. Right now we are working on clearing flower beds and making space for them to each have their own garden area. The older two are building window boxes for their bedroom windows, and Avery is helping me build a raised bed box for him to plant his favorite veggies. He started some cucumber seeds he got in a Burger Ville kids meal when he and I had a date to town one night.

The photo of our TV is showing the boys playing multiplayer Minecraft on their new to them Nintendo Switch. They saved for 6 months, and have been waiting about three years to find a way to play together on Minecraft, as our internet cannot support multiplayer on the computer version. They have been setting up challenges, working through quests, and building some awesome structurs together!

The bean tent has been built! The boys, mostly Michael, went into the woods and drug back long sticks. We then took our scrap bag of clothes and made long strips of cloth to weave among the branches to create a trellis for the beans. So much fun! For a final touch we planted sunflowers around the base as well. It will be fun to watch it all grow this summer.

Having the scrap bag out and cutting scissors inspired Emmet and he made Avery and him these old t shirts into fancy long sleeve shirts with old, holey socks. Their ideas sometimes are fabulous!

More fun this week includes a hand me down mini bike from friends whose kids outgrew it. It goes about 10mph, so much safer than other ride on devices. It also has no throttle, so John helped them rig it up to work for now, and has ordered parts to help them fix it soon.

The Farming Game! One of my childhood favorites has been out of print for many years! Telling John about it recently inspired him to look and find it had been re-printed this year! Little did I know, he ordered it for me for mothers day, and at the same time I placed an order of school items and also discovered it had been reprinted and ordered a copy as well! John's came first and I was SO confused why the company I ordered from sent it via Amazon, until I realized it was John's name on the box, ordered from his account he only uses for buying me gifts. Haha! Our second copy might have to go into the family White Elephant Christmas exchange this year, as several of my siblings would love to have it as well!

School has really slowed down. We finished Story of The World last week, whoop whoop, and are down to math writing, and reading. In another week we will start our final projects and then school will be over!
Have a wonderful week!
