Week 3: Science Galore!
Our science curriculum came!! Our science curriculum came!! We were all very excited to start science lessons this week! We did the first two of Science Odyssey Chemistry unit this week. The first day we read lables on different products around our home and discussed what the word "chemical" means. The second lesson we took 3 items, baking powder, powdered sugar, and cornstartch and observed how they looked and reacted to similar tests of adding oil, water, and food coloring. Some of the results were very surprising! The whole take away was that science is used to be able to tell the difference between chemicals.
Avery did some art last week, helping me sew a kid sized baby carrier. He said he needed one so he could keep our new barn kitty warm. That kitten has been well loved since coming to our farm a week ago!! Sadly, we have discovered both Avery and Michael seem to be very allergic to cats just like me! Emmet has taken it upon himself to give the kitty extra cuddles since he has no issue snuggling him. We also cannot agree on a name, so currently he is Meowz Pepper-Mittens. Ha ha! We will see if it sticks!
In Story of The World our chapter discussed Jamestown, King James, and Powhatan and the native Americans. We have several picture books that talk more about Pocohontas and Powhatan to read as well.
The boys did writing for their science labs instead of scentences this week. Michael read 100 minutes and Emmet read about 80 minutes this week. Wednesday was our last CSA week for the farm, so we had our favorite babysitter one more time. She had a fun day planned of making projectile machines from popsicle sticks and toilet paper tubes to shoot marshmallows. They enjoyed that a lot!
For math we did lesson three from Beast Academy. It is working out great. All three boys have understood the lessons, and the older two complete all the pages for the lesson and Avery just does one or two. Hoping to start building on concepts with board games, but haven't got myself quite that organized yet.
Cheers,
The Dillmans
