Emmet's Portfolio #1 for 2020/2021 school year.

ELA:

Emmet has attended Eden Acre's fro 8 weeks where he journals and communicates with other children and adults. He also attended an outdoor co-op where they learn about nature and science through listening to a parents demonstration and then applying the knowledge to a project. Emmet also has been working on the Usborn Story Writers book and is on page 10. Emmet has read 400/2000 minutes.

I can show what I have learned about letters and sounds by reading words (i.e., identify and know the meanings of most common prefixes

and suffixes, including common Latin suffixes; read multisyllable words; read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.)

I can read grade-level texts with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension.

Comprehension (Literature and Informational Text):

I can ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of stories and informational texts, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.

I can recount stories, including fables, folktales, and myths from diverse cultures; determine the central message, lesson, or moral and explain how it is conveyed through

key details in the text.

I can describe characters in a story (e.g., their traits, motivations, or feelings) and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events.

I can determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a story or informational text, distinguishing literal from nonliteral language.

I can refer to parts of stories, dramas, and poems when writing or speaking about a text, using terms such as chapter, scene, and stanza; I can also describe how each

successive part builds on earlier sections.

I can journal at Eden Acre’s.

I can journal at home on subjects of science and for reading comprehension.

I can complete a sentence every day we do school on topics we discussed.

I can use pictures, objects, equations, or words to represent mathematical thinking.

I can choose the best tool, such as estimation or creating a model, for solving mathematical problems.

I can use clear and specific language in mathematical discussions.

I can look for and make use of structures (e.g., recognize that if 12+3=15, then 3+12=15).

I can notice patterns in counting, such as counting by tens.

I can represent and solve word problems involving addition and subtraction within 100.

I can fluently and accurately add and subtract facts through 20.

I can work with equal groups of objects to gain foundations for multiplication (e.g., arrays, repeated addition, etc.).

Number & Operations in Base Ten

I can understand and use place value (thousands, hundreds, tens and ones).

I can fluently use strategies to add and subtract double digit numbers within 100.

SCIENCE:

Emmet has complete the first 4 lessons in Science Odyssey: Chemistry, and has attended Eden Acre's for 8 weeks.

I can explain the basics of atoms

I can learn about plant life-cycles at Eden Acre's.

I can play games to reinforce knowledge.

I can make observations and/or measurements to produce data to serve as the basis for evidence for an explanation of a phenomenon or test a design solution.

I can ask questions that can be investigated based on patterns such as cause and effect relationships.

I can define a simple problem that can be solved through the development of a new or improved object or tool.

I can plan and conduct an investigation collaboratively to produce data to serve as the basis for evidence, using fair tests in which variables are controlled and the number

of trials considered.

I can analyze and interpret data to make sense of phenomena using logical reasoning.

I can construct an argument with evidence, data, and/or a model.

SOCIAL SCIENCE:

I can describe life in early modern times.

I can show competency of subject material through completion of projects, videos and pictures of myself demonstrating knowledge, and keeping a list of books that are read to me about topics.

I can attend Eden Acre's and see connections between my family and others.

I can attend Eden Acre's and learn about the function of community and social settings.

I can describe life in earn modern times.

can describe how individuals, groups, (e.g., socioeconomic, ethnic, and social groups including individuals who are American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian or Americans of African, Asian, Pacific Island, Chicano, Latino, or Middle Eastern descent), religious groups, and other traditionally marginalized groups (women, people with disabilities, immigrants, refugees, and individuals who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender), events and developments have shaped the local community and region. I can explain why individuals and groups (e.g., socioeconomic, ethnic, social, religious, and traditionally marginalized groups) in the same historical period differed in the way they viewed and interpreted historical events.
