 Michael's Portfolio #1 for 2020/2021 school year.


ELA:

We have reached Chapter 8 in Story of The World, which Michael listens to and answers comprehension questions afterwards:

I can determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text (fiction and nonfiction), including those that allude to significant characters found inmythology (e.g., Herculean)

I can compare and contrast the point of view from which different stories are narrated, including the difference between first- and third-person narrations.

I can make connections between the text of a story or drama and a visual or oral presentation of the text, identifying where each version reflects specific descriptions and

directions in the text.

I can compare and contrast the treatment of similar themes and topics (e.g., opposition of good and evil) and patterns of events (e.g., the quest) in stories, myths.


Michael has completed 500 hours of reading time, reading comic books and short novels:


I can read every day. 

I can read 2,000 minutes by year end.


Writing:

Michael had done one of the following each week this year school year so far:

I can journal at Eden Acre’s.

I can journal at home on subjects of science and for reading comprehension.

I can complete a sentence every day we do school on topics we discussed.



Speaking and Listening:


Michael has attended Eden Acre's for 8 weeks. We read Story of the World aloud and he answers conprehension questions after. We also are part of a co-op that meets twice a week and he participates during a story and activity time.


I can attend Eden Acre’s and communicate with my peers and teachers, speaking fluently and asking for clarification when needed.

I can listen to read aloud time and answer questions on comprehension.

I can effectively participate in different types of discussions and with different people about 4th grade topics and texts, building on others’ ideas and expressing my own

clearly.

I can paraphrase text that is read aloud or information presented in diverse media and formats.






MATH:


Michael has completed Beast Academy 2A through Chapter 3.


I can explain place value.

I can count by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 10’s, etc. 

I can regroup, add, and subtract up to three digit numbers.

I can compare numbers on a number line.

I can determine less than, greater than numbers.

I can make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

SCIENCE:


Michael has complete the first 4 lessons in Science Odyssey: Chemistry, and has attended Eden Acre's for 8 weeks.

I can learn about plant life-cycles at Eden Acre's.

I can play games to reinforce knowledge.

I can make observations and/or measurements to produce data to serve as the basis for evidence for an explanation of a phenomenon or test a design solution.

I can show competency of subject material through completion of projects, videos and pictures of myself demonstrating knowledge, and keeping a list of books that are read to me about topics.

I can attend Eden Acre's and learn about the function of community and social settings.

I can discuss major historical events and moral dilemmas with the past. 

I can analyze the distinct way of knowing and living amongst the different American Indian tribes in Oregon prior to colonization, such as religion, language, and cultural

practices and the subsequent impact of that colonization.

I can distinguish between fact and fiction in historical accounts by comparing documentary sources on historical figures and events with fictional characters and events in

stories





EXTRA CURRICULAR:


Michael has attended Eden Acre's for 8 weeks where he had made ink from various natural items and used them for journaling. Michael has made many drawings and painting and art out of clay to represent activities from Story of the World.


I can do nature based art projects at Eden Acre’s. 

I can do outdoor play in any weather at Eden Acre’s doing activities that improve my balance, coordination, and stamina.

I can complete art projects with my art supplies based on our social studies subjects.

I can organize and develop artistic ideas and work.

I can refine and complete works of art.

I can create art through appropriate use of tools and techniques.

I can perform or produce artistic work for presentation.

I can respond and find meaning when viewing works of art.
