Week 9: Nutria, Compound Words, and Cousins!
Our week started out a little differently, as forest school ended up being cancelled due to lack of teachers that week. Instead we spent the day at home, getting school done! Story of the World took us to the Middle East and learning about Persia and the Turks. We had a few library books that fit into this chapter, including a Persian version of Cinederella.
We learned sign language and Spanish words for animals this week!
Emmet has been filling in the pages of this story writing journal for his writing. He seems to enjoy it, especially speech bubble pages where I help write some lines too. Michael has struggled to find a writing program that he really likes. Finally I pulled a book of language skills out and he instantly loved the short, easy worksheets. The first week he did compound words. Avery is working his way through his Handwriting Without Tears workbook.
Our co-op went to a local wetlands and focused on a bird study. The kids made toilet paper and sunflower butter bird feeders while we waited for the rain to subside. Then we all went for a mile long walk spotting birds, and lots of nutria! They would cross the paths right in front of us, and this little guy sat and ate leaves just a few feet from us as we took pictures and looked up facts about them.
Then our week went a bit sideways when we needed to help take care of family and have our cousins some stay with us a few days. Michael entertained them with baking soda and vinegar explosions! This ended our formal homeschooling of the week, as trying to keep two toddlers happy is a lot of busy work! Funny how you forget those things as your own kids age up.
Cheers,
The Dillmans
