Week 17 the 11th-15th:

What a great winter week! After a crazy rainstorm the first of the week the weather was not too wet and not too cold the end of the week.

Monday we read our Story of The World chapter on Galileo. We watched a short cartoon about Galileo's life and his studies on the earth and how he thought that previous studies were wrong. The sun doesn't revolve around the earth, it was the other way around! Interesting how no one wanted to listen and he spent his entire life just trying to make people see his viewpoint, and died before anyone did. It provided a good conversation about how we use the scientific method now to prove theories, which then helps others see truths.

Tuesday Co-op came to our house and although we had a craft on frogs, we did not get around to reading our book or talking about what frogs do in winter; everyone was way too busy playing!

We played a new science game this week on Wednesday: Subatomic. It was a fun look at what atoms are made of! Lots of little pieces and intricate rules kept the boys focused and learning!

On Thursday our co-op went to Bald Peak Park, a space that is more nature than park, and ran and played. They climbed trees, played hide and seek behind 100 year old trees, and watercolor painted a gorgeous view of the valley. We even did some garbage clean up and short hiking.

We read books about wolves this week, following the Kids Moon Club and learning about the Wolf Moon for January. We read poetry about moons on Friday.

A really good week over all! The boys all read lots and spent many hours outside! We also are aiming for 1000 Hours Outside this year, a group that encourages kids and families to match screen time (statistically kids spend 1000 hours a year on screens) with outside time. It seemed like it would be easy, then after two weeks seemed impossible, but as we near the end of the month it isn't looking that hard after all! Haha.

Hope you enjoyed the mild winter week!
