Week 25th March 8th-12th: Industrial Revolution, Sunshine, and Books!

Story of the World this week brought to our attention the Industrial Revolution. We also read about the first hot air balloon, invented in France, and the French Revolution. The boys enjoy reading blocks of chapters at a time while they munch snacks or work on projects. We also read a pile of books from the library on hot air balloons, Marie Antionette, and some on how mills made it possible to create goods faster while simultaneously changing craftsman families lives forever.

We did work in our barn over the weekend, getting closer to having our walk in fridge ready for this years csa season. Avery worked on building a ramp for fun.

Meowz has grown so much! He is a giant fluffy ball of love. He will climb people like a tree when they are not paying attention, and loooooves snuggles. The boys often pack him around like a baby.

Friday we do poetry and tea. We read poems about nature and March and spring!

We visited a walking path in town which had several play places along the way, however the kids all enjoyed this massive laurel tree and spent a good amount of time climbing in it, pretending to be monkeys. We also had 90's recess day and taught the kids (and re taught ourselves, it has been a while!!) wall ball, four square, hop scotch, basketball, and made paper fortune tellers.

Our other co-op day was on International Woman's day. Another mom had a book about famous women and then one on Amelia Earhart. We made paper airplanes and she drew a map of the world on the ground in chalk and we flew our planes across the world. Then we took a walk on the path at the park and observed a nutria in a little pond before returning to the park area where the kids took turns burring each other in the sand box! Michael has taken to drawing while with group. One another friend usually journals most the time group is together, and the two of them have been finding a place to hide out together and draw. I really enjoy watching him find a friend to connect with.

Michael also had an idea for a story and has started typing parts of it off and on. Lots of spelling practice, and I am quite impressed by his punctuation and sentence structure!

We had a challenging writing page this week!! This is a LOT of writing for my two kiddos, and they did it fabulously! We wrote a page the week before that asked them questions about their opinion on the best tool in Minecraft, then this week they used what they wrote to make a paragraph on the subject.

Avery has been working his way through 100 Easy Lessons to Reading. He is set on learning to read this year, and is doing a great job! He has started to sound out simple words he finds on his own as well. I am giddy over this, the older two never wanted to learn to read until much, much later, and having one kiddo asking this young and not resisting my attempts to teach him is exciting!

On Wednesday we had our super awesome babysitter!! It was National Mario day and she had a fun day planned! The boys had Mario costumes with fake mustaches, played Mario on the Ninetendo Switch, read about the history of the Mario games, and did some drawing of Mario! They had so much fun!

Other fun things from the week: we have OzoBot from the library, a programming robot. We read a pile of living picture books on our history subjects. We went to the library that is open for book browsing, Michael baked cookies, and all three boys are listening to DragonSlayer, the latest Tui Sutherland book.

Have a wonderful week,

The Dillman's
