Week 29 April 19th-23rd: Aquarium!
This was a very busy week! I did not realize just how much I had worked in the garden and on the CSA until Wednesday afternoon. I had all three kiddos in the garden telling me I needed to be done for the day. It has been an interesting transition from being available to them full time to being very busy working. They are adjusting and doing amazing at it, but it does pull on my mama heartstrings to have to move toward a little more independence so soon for them.
I also took very little photos! On Monday we read a pile of books from the library on environmental science. Then they asked about documentaries on endangered species and we found one about jungle and rainforest animals on Netflix we watched. The documentary talked a lot about the usage of palm oil and how devastating that crop has been to the rainforests. We the hunted through our cupboard to look for palm oil, so I could show them an example of a sustainable non-rainforest damaging palm oil, and a not good one. BUT we had neither type in our pantry! Go us! Haha.
Tuesday the boys went to another co-op families house with our babysitter. They all worked together to cultivate a part of their yard to plant sunflowers and make a sunflower ring. It will be fun to watch it grow.
Wednesday we had our babysitter/co-op friend/mama extraordinaire and she played bored games with the boys, they read a lot, and also played a stuffed animal disco party!
We put in flooring in our wash/pack room for the vegetable csa. Michael helped a ton!
We then left the aquarium and our car started acting funky!! The check engine light turned on so we pulled into an auto parts store and they have these neat readers you can plug in and it will tell you what is wrong. The kids all piled out and looked at the engine with me, attempting to help me while I attempted to follow John's advice over the phone. In the end we discovered mis-firing cylinders, which could be anything! Not wanting to break the engine, we drove just a bit north and joined the rest of co-op at the beach, and then had a very beautiful four hours at the beach while waiting for John to come. He brought our big trailer and we loaded the expedition and hauled it home. Turns out is the coil packs, a hundred dollar fix, and probably could have driven home just fine. But, made for an adventure day over all!
Friday we decided to take a day off from school. I worked Friday afternoon, Saturday we did more work in our wash-pack, and today is Sunday. Avery and I have date plans to visit an educational toy store to look for environmental science and anatomy items for our new unit studies. We also are picking up more laying hens! We will have around 75 hens after today! So many eggs!
Hope you have a great week!
